MSW in Home Care Addresses Common Concerns
In this interview Sherry Picker, MSW is interviewed about home care and how Paradise Home Health Care can help seniors.
Sherry Picker received her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Hunter College School of Social Work. She has worked with Older Adults for over fifteen years. Whether in a Community Services Agency or in private duty Home Care company her expertise is always client centric. She has found that home care can literally be a “hands on” solution to assist elder seniors or anyone who needs some amount of assistance in their home, to be as independent as possible and maintain a positive quality of life.
When help is needed with personal care such as hygiene, or for safety, once a home care aide enters the picture, a sense of calm, greater safety and autonomy can follow. Beyond persoal care, an aide can be a companion, driver, cook, housekeeper, provide medication reminders, to name a few of the tasks under their purview.
Paradise Home Health Care is distinguished in its use of a Social Worker to assess a situation which includes aspects of well-being beyond home care needs. They do not use an answering service but rather all after hour calls go to the owner, Linda LeMonte. Additionally they have moved to a two hour minimum rather than four or more so that people who want or need to start slower, or simply do not need more care, can get started and enjoy the services as they wish to.
The important think is to assess the need and then build in the services to address those needs. Home Care can be either a short term or long term solution which keeps people safe, cared for and independent in their own home. Ten percent of help can gain niety percent of independence.
